The White Balance setting on the AZ401 is a setting that adjusts the color balance of light that you are taking pictures or video in and adjusts the color balance so that it appears a neutral white. This counteracts the orange/yellow color of artificial light, for example, or the cold light of deep shadows under a blue sky so portrait shots taken in the shade look more natural.
